Local artist Cathy Hoover-Groen has loved sculpting figures since she was a kid growing up in Panama, gleaning clay from the banks of Gatun Lake. She still approaches her work with the joy and wonder of childhood, creating amusing people and animals in all shapes and sizes.
Bell forms are a favorite motif as they are so adaptable. Stoneware clay is thrown on the wheel before further sculptural elements are added. Legs and feet form the clappers. A hanging loop is included or the bells happily perch on a table or mantle. Each character is different, from its nose to its toes!
